Let's Infiltrate the Collector's Base!

 photo sm23_zps7466b879.png

Ouch, Shepard. I guess dying isn't so bad when you're doing it for the second time.

All right, everyone gather in the conference room and let's figure out what we're going to do.

I redrew the conference room. The table now has an angle. I'm assuming Juliard will call with my honorary doctorate momentarily.

Okay, so, the game asks you to make several choices at this point. The idea is that you've got to pick the right person for the right job, otherwise the game will permakill the character.

Two rules apply to all of the choices. One, whoever you send must be loyal, as in, you've done their loyalty mission and you didn't fuck it up. We've done them all, we're totally good there.

Two, for whatever reason, it is next to impossible to kill Miranda. I don't know, just a little trivia for you. I mean, you can, you're just really going to have to know what you're doing.

Anyway, Miranda's asking us what tech expert to toss in the vents, right? The game will give you several options, and you should use Thane because he fucking loves vents but the only ones that won't eat it are Legion, Kasumi and Tali. Pick anyone you want. What do I always do?

 photo sm28_zps843aa816.png

WELL? Lie to me, tell me I'm wrong.

 photo sm29_zps466af4d2.png

The game will toss you quite a few of these "Who's going to lead the second group through bad guys?" scenarios. You can go look up shit and do very serious math about who will get killed and who won't, but seriously, there's a very fast way to go through these:

For whatever reason, Garrus never eats it in these scenarios. He's not Miranda, but he's very durable.

So says the wiki, Miranda or Jacob would work well here too. Anyone else will die.

Really I pick Garrus a lot because it's easier than going into the wiki every time and actually reading. But shit, this is MSPixel, I can make up something more poetic for you all, can't I.

Okay! Let's go infiltrate that Collector Base!

Once inside the base, whoever you asked to go ventin' will come across doors in the vents every few yards, and ask Shepard to hit a switch. The switch then brings the doors down, and our vent buddy can continue, pretty standard video game stuff.

 photo sm32_zpsd08083e1.png

Except for one thing: this is the Collector Base, can you guess which one of our old buddies pops up?

Legion, quit being a dick.

Speaking of Legion, that motherfucker tears through the vents, seriously. He's always bitching that the vent doors aren't open. To make it better, if you leave him hanging while you deal with Harbinger et all, he dies and you get a game over.

So what do you do?

VANGUARD

 photo sm35_zps0d6b44f3.png

I never have any time to take out any enemies between switches, I just charge, switch, charge, switch, charge, so on, and hope that my squadmates can clean up. I have no idea how you do this if you're not a vanguard.

Eventually, Shepard flips the last switch, allowing Legion to exit the vents and meet up with Garrus and pals.

The Collector's Ship: Gross

Photobucket

I get Ilos and Illium mixed up and I'm too lazy to go edit the image. Just pretend there's a damn Quik-E-Mart out in the Prothean ruins.

Photobucket

Speaking of, I suspect? that Brother Tim is calling us early, we've still got a SHIT. TON. of missions to go through. I'm hoping the game isn't futzing out on me. Surely to hell not.

Photobucket

The Illusive Man has discovered an abandoned collector ship. Or rather, he's discovered that a turian patrol unit discovered a collector ship and took it out.

Photobucket

Feh, details! The point is, before anyone else can get close to it, Shep and the Shepettes can step in, grab data, and zip on out and then roll up to Ilos for peanut butter. Wait, Illium. I may have stopped caring.

How indeed. Wouldn't they have to, you know, shoot at the damn ship? Curiouser and curiouser.

Photobucket

The collector's ship has very little oxygen, so everyone has to wear helmets. For reasons I don't understand, some characters don't have helmets -- they just have these little breather units that cover their mouth and nose. Miranda's one of them. You want to trip hard? Bring Jack. Shepard (a human!) is standing there in heavy armor and a helmet and she wears a breather mask and a tit strap. Sci fi playing fast and loose with the rules of science? I never!

Photobucket

The collector's ship inside is like a giant bee hive or some shit. It's grosser than that one level in Super Mario Land 2. If you automatically filled in "six golden coins", we could party.

Point being, remember all those pods we found on Horizon? The collectors brought them back here and were fucking gross ass bugs about it. Some of them are empty. Did the collectors suck their guts out or .... ?

Oh, hey, Siri's calling.

Photobucket

Photobucket

This ship is fucking dogging Shepard! That's not cool.

The collectors don't clean house very well, either.

The crew rolls up to some sort of dead collector hooked up to a computer.

Photobucket

By the way, watch this scene close -- Shepard turns on her omni tool. Usually characters just sort of stick out their arm and it appears. I swear I think it's the only instance in the Mass Effect universe when a character does that. I can't decide if that would resolve the nerd fights I've overheard about how omni tools work or just make more of them.

Hey, EDI, what's going on with that dead collector?

Photobucket

Photobucket

SAY WHAT

The collectors are Protheans?! Not really. EDI suggests that they used to be, but the reapers altered their genetic code so that they'd be more ... useful. The Protheans didn't die out, they just got conquered and taken over in a terrifying example of body horror!

Photobucket

Anyway, we came to hook EDI up to the collector's ship, so let's get that done.
